Welcome Fellow Crafters. Dawn here…… I’m very excited to say I have joined the Whimsy Stamps design team and they have a really great new release out.
Today I will be using their amazing Woodland Cottage Landscape die. It’s one of their new releases that just came out. This die measures 3 1/4” x 8 1/4” and can be used in so many different ways. Today, I will be making a silhouette card for you.
So let’s get started.
To create the background I use Distress Oxide Inks. The colors I am using are Candied Apple, Spiced Marmalade and Squeezed Lemonade. I chose to use the distress oxide inks because they just blend together so easily. I’m using Blending brushes to color the background. I tend to use my brushes when I’m going for a lighter look.
I put a piece of scrap paper down so I can tap some of the excess ink off of the brush so it doesn’t make harsh dark spots on my paper.
I start out by putting the Candied apple on the top of the card stock and blending it as I go.
Then I bring in the orange Marmalade. I just keep adding it onto the paper. I don’t really worrying how I’m putting the colors down because once all three colors are on the paper I will go back and blend them together.
Next, I bring in the squeezed Lemonade. I will blend this color all the way to the bottom of the paper. Once I get to the bottom, I barely put anything down because I want the yellow to almost fade out.
Once I have all three colors down, I go back and forth with all the colors so they blend together nicely. Distress oxide inks actually make this process extremely easy. You can just keep blending until you have the desired look that you want.
Once I’m done coloring my background, I cut out a small circle to use for the moon. I take the blending brush that I had used for the squeezed lemonade and without adding any extra ink to the brush I very lightly add some color to the edges of the circle.
I want to give some dimension to the card, so I die cut three of the Woodland Cottage from black card stock. Then I glue all three together.
Next, I glue the landscape down onto my background. I don’t press the landscape all the way down until I put the moon under the windmill, then I continue to press the landscape down.
Then, I take a piece of black cardstock cut to 8 7/16” x 3 ½” and adhere my panel to it.
Now I add the sentiment to the card. I’m using the Whimsy Stamp Simple Sentiment Strip. I take my Grid Transparency and line it up in the corner of the Misti. This helps me make sure the sentiment is lined up straight. When I’m done I close the Misti and pull off the grid.
Then I prep my paper with the Embossing powder bag. I use Versafine Black Ink to stamp the sentiment. This ink stays wet long enough to put embossing powder on it. I cover the sentiment using the Ranger Clear Embossing Powder. When my Heat Tool is good and hot I heat the sentiment.
And for the final step, I adhere the panel onto a piece of card stock that is cut to 3 ⅝” x 8 ⅝” and scored at 3 ⅝”
That completes my card for today. If you would like to see how I made the card, please watch my Youtube Video listed below.
